Corrections Dialogue is an independent research journal dedicated to exploring correctional policy, prisoner transport, incarceration, public safety, and criminal justice in Canada.
The purpose of this website is not to advocate for a particular political ideology or predetermined solution. Instead, it documents an ongoing exploration of how correctional systems can better protect society while respecting the dignity, health, and safety of incarcerated people.
Corrections Dialogue is intended to serve as a long-term repository of research, technical analysis, and commentary on correctional policy in Canada.
Current Research Project
Prisoner Transport and Vehicle Safety
The Prisoner Transport and Vehicle Safety Project examines how incarcerated people are transported in Canada and explores whether existing transport systems can be improved to better protect:
- occupant safety
- officer safety
- crashworthiness
- dignity
- communication
- ventilation
- operational effectiveness
Although correctional transport is a routine part of the justice system, relatively little public information exists regarding the safety, design, and operational performance of transport vehicles.
The project draws upon engineering analysis, correctional policy, publicly available reports, Access to Information (ATIP) requests, and commercially available transport technologies to explore practical alternatives to traditional transport cages.
